What do righteousness and wickedness have in common?

A lot of things I see on TV disgust me. These realty shows where people are cursing every minute, there is often drama and confusion, fights break out and so on just often makes me upset. Even some movies I just hate such as a movie called Knowing and The Da Vinci Code. For those of you who haven’t seen either, I would suggest to pass on watching them. Save two to 4 hours of your life and either choose to watch something else or take up your time with a hobby of yours. To give you what the movies are about; Knowing is a movie that suggests there is no God and some things in the Bible can be explained away through the belief in aliens. The Da Vinci Code is also blasphemous and tells a story of Jesus having children through Mary Madeline, her being the head of the Church and people trying to cover it up. I may be wrong from my interpretation of the movie, but that is what I gathered. So why do we waste our time and cloud our minds with all of this confusion and subject ourselves to being influence by it? Do we think it doesn’t have an affect on us? 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 states:

14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[a]? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 17"Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."18"I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Also, Matthew 7:15-20 states:

15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

But we (me included) continue to watch these movies and television shows. Just like we consume unhealthy food that is bad for the body, we often watch and listen to things that are unhealthy to the soul. I feel awful for those who are being raised by TV and shows such as 106 and park on BET. I remember listening to the following;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxy4rdYKhmI

A few lines from the song are:

“Mama, daddy what ya doin?
Ain't took a trip in years
Busy with both ya careers
Trying to make a mark
Even bought a house, but ya kids live at 106 && park”

Some try to keep their children away from influential things, but don’t realize that they set the example. If a child sees their parents watching bad things, they often think they should be able to do the same. Also, how can we justify knowing our children can be influenced by what they see and hear, yet we not being able be influence in the same ways. I remember when I went off to basketball camp when I was in HS. It was in the North and people talked differently. When I returned home from the camp, I remember speaking similar to how the people I was in camp with. Did I mean to be influenced? No. However, I was none the less. That is why I believe it is vital to attempt to surround ones shelf with positive people and things. Your thoughts?
